The National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims
was observed for a second year with a local candlelight vigil. It was held at Johnson Park.
Some of the victims represented and/or remembered
included Renee, Jeffrey L. Owens (murdered 2.16.94), Julie Abbott (murdered 4.2.04), Julia Keenan Dawson, Ean French (murdered
2.3.03), Brandon M. Whitby (murdered 8.21.08), Rodney Johnson, Lee Priester (murdered 7.28.07), Janna Kelly (murdered 12.4.07),
Sue Timpson, Lori DeKleine, Troy Tyo, Richard Dannah (murdered 5.31.08), Christopher Turner, Joel Battaglia, and Janeane
Lusk, and Chad McElwee.
We were honored to have retired Senator Bill VanRegenmorter to share with
us....he is a huge advocate for crime victims, and has authored crime bills in Michigan that have been nationally recognized.
He is a former board member of Parents of Murdered Children.
